Rare Lincoln Documents at Library

John Reusing, Development Director at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County talks about the exhibit of rare Lincoln documents, images, and ephemera currently on display at the library with J.D. Carruthers. The library is a partner in Lincoln Legacy: A Cincinnati Celebration of Freedom which is presenting a series of special Lincoln related events throughout this year in conjuction with the national Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.

Mr. Olmstead gives insight into his research and writing process as well as describing his plans for making Coal Black Horse the first book of a trilogy.

Teen Discussion of Bronx Masquerade

Bronx Masquerade brings poetry to teen literature. Now in its seventh year, On The Same Page is an annual community reading event hosted by the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County and supported by community partners including CET. The mission of this annual event is to enhance our sense of community through a shared reading event which encompasses all of Hamilton County. Bronx Masquerade by Nikki Grimes was selected as the youth title for 2008. Named a Coretta Scott King Award Winner in 2003, Ms. Grimes' novel portrays a high school English class as they discover ways to express themselves to each other through poetry.

Jennifer Weikert, a teen librarian at the Westwood Branch of the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, is joined by local teens to share their insights about this novel.

Christopher Myers Kids Book Author

CET Kids & Families presents an interview with Children's book author and illustrator Christopher Myers. Laura Dell, Program and Exhibits Coordinator for the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County, interviews Christopher Myers about his 12-year long career. Myers emphasizes the idea that he has always written and illustrated, being influenced by the literary environment he grew up in. Myers also elaborates on the ability of writing to effect the community and world in a positive manner.

Sharon Drees interviews Leslie Edwards, a Tuskegee Airman during WWII, in the Hall of Heroes at Winton Woods Primary North School.

Mr. Glenn Grundei, retired teacher from Winton Woods Primary North, began creating his tribute to American Veterans in the hallways of his school about ten years ago. What has resulted is an impressive display of picture frames containing letters, newspaper clippings, photographs, uniforms, and medals of honor, mostly from WWII.

William Cosgrove shares his World War II experiences as a POW.

World War II veteran Roy Aka tells his story

Born in the United States, Roy Aka was living in Hawaii when the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor during WWII. As a Japanese American, Mr. Aka was considered an "enemy alien" by the U.S. government directly after the attack even though he had been a citizen since birth. He volunteered for the 442nd Combat Regiment, but was recruited for a secret intelligence mission.

WW2 Dorothy Lang

Dorothy Lang tells about her experience as a Navy nurse during WWII. Mrs. Lang was stationed in the Pacific in a general hospital. While in Hawaii, she met and married a bomber pilot.

WW2 Veteran Carl Tuggle

Carl Tuggle served in the Navy during WW2. Mr. Tuggle chose to join the Navy because they were less segregated than other branches of the service. Mr. Tuggle still struggled with discrimination throughout his service where he served as a longshoreman loading ammunition into ships.

World War 2 veterean Bob Brose tells about his experience on a destroyer in the Pacific. Mr. Brose is interviewed by Bill Myers.

WWII Doolittle Raider - Tom Griffin

Tom Griffin flew a B-25 bomber in the April 1942 Army air attack on Japan best known as the Doolittle Raid. He was later a POW in a German camp.
