Support CET by Donating Your Used Vehicle

Now there's a new way to offer your support to CET—by donating your usable but unwanted car, truck, boat or recreational vehicle.

Simply call 1-877-308-2408 to arrange for a pickup. The operators can help answer any specific questions you may have.

Here are the answers to some commonly asked questions:

What can I donate?
CET accepts usable but unwanted vehicles including cars, trucks, motorcycles…even boats! Your vehicle will be sold at auction and the proceeds come to CET to help pay for equipment, computers and programs.

What do I have to do?
Call 1-877-308-2408 and our operators will walk you through the process in a few minutes. All we need is some basic information about the car and where it's located. Also, the title must be in your name and will need to be signed (our operators will give you specific instructions about where to put your signature on the title.)

Will you pick up the car?
Yes! We want this process to be as easy as possible. A representative from a local towing company will call you to make pick-up arrangements. The driver will take your keys and the signed title and he/she will give you a towing receipt showing that your vehicle was collected by Vehicles for Charity for CET.

Is my car donation tax deductible?
Yes. CET (Greater Cincinnati Television Educational Foundation) is a 501(C)(3) non-profit. Please check with your tax consultant for instructions on how to list your donation as a charitable deduction.

How do I determine the value of the car?
As of January 1st, the IRS changed the guidelines for vehicle donations. If the claimed value of the donated motor vehicle exceeds $500 and the item is sold by the charitable organization, the taxpayer is limited to the gross proceeds from the sale. Vehicles for Charity, which administers CET's donation program, will notify you of the amount when your vehicle is sold. Please consult your tax advisor for more information.

Please be aware that if your donation is valued at more than $500, you'll be required to complete IRS Form 8283 for Non-cash Charitable Contributions. If the donation is valued at more than $5,000, you need to have it appraised before making the donation. CET is not permitted to assign a value to your donation. You will, however, receive an acknowledgement of the donation including specific information about the vehicle from the station.

How do I claim my tax deduction?
You should include the sale proceeds of your vehicle, as provided to you by Vehicles for Charity, as an itemized deduction on your tax return for the year in which you make the donation.
